The Dunfermline Tapestry Project
The Dunfermline Tapestry project celebrates Dunfermline’s weaving heritage by involving local children and adults in creating a large-scale woven artwork. It was co-designed with local weaver Bethany Snaddon and is part of the National Lottery Heritage funded Great Place project.
Bethany Snaddon grew up in Dunfermline and studied Textile Design at Heriot-Watt University in Galashiels. Speaking about the project she said, “My art practice explores weaving on a miniature scale, bringing connection to the landscapes around us. The Dunfermline Tapestry explores these feelings of connection with each weavers’ individual experience of Dunfermline and their place within it”.
Throughout 2020, residents were invited to learn to weave inspired by buildings, nature or sky. The looms were woven in school workshops, online classes and at home with weaving kits.
The Dunfermline Tapestry exhibition is open from 5 July – 24 October 2021 at Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries.
