Delivering Social & Economic benefits to Dunfermline
The Great Place project brings together the main heritage organisations in Dunfermline, to work more closely with council services, charities, voluntary and business groups to deliver social and economic benefits for the city, through the Dunfermline Heritage Partnership and the Local Community Planning Partnership.
Funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, Fife Council, Fife Cultural Trust, Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, Dunfermline Delivers and Scottish Enterprise; the 3-year project encourages the use of heritage in regeneration, strengthening networks and supporting inclusion.
The five components of the Great Places scheme
Introducing the project to its target audiences, gather views and consult on the project’s actions, generate interest, recruit volunteers for later stages and build communication channels through social media.
Working with Dunfermline’s communities to define and describe a sense of place and put in place key planning for later stages of the project.
Creating tools and establishing new working partnerships to ensure that everyone in Dunfermline knows the story of the city.
Offering opportunities for people to learn new skills or develop new knowledge, and using heritage as a means of personal development, employability and inspiring innovation to generate economic growth.
Building capacity for the future, establishing new ways of working, and developing new channels of communication with the community, to integrate heritage into the strategic planning for Dunfermline.
The Dunfermline Heritage Partnership
The Dunfermline Heritage Partnership was formed in 2015 for the purposes of developing and implementing a coherent unified strategy that promotes Dunfermline and places the consumer experience at the centre its ambitions.
The partnership consists of all the organisations who currently operate built heritage assets in the centre of Dunfermline alongside representatives of other organisations that are involved in promoting Dunfermline as a tourist destination.
Members include: Carnegie Dunfermline Trust; Fife Cultural Trust; Fife Council; Historic Environment Scotland; VisitScotland; West Fife Local Tourist Association; Dunfermline Delivers; Dunfermline Abbey; Abbot House; Fife Coast and Countryside Trust.
Design Dunfermline 2018
‘Place, Work, Folk’
Design Dunfermline 2018 was a programme of works that researched Dunfermline’s heritage, assessed the current built environment and engaged the community to describe their ambitions for the future of the town.
