Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries
Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries - a new museum, gallery spaces, cafe, shop and reading rooms all adjoining the world's 1st Carnegie Library.
This spectacular £12.4million award-winning new building (EAA Building of the Year, Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland's (RIAS) Andrew Doolan prize), which opened in May 2017, links superbly with the world’s first Carnegie Library and houses a new museum, exhibition galleries, local history Reading Room, new children’s library and a mezzanine café with stunning views over the landscaped garden to Dunfermline Abbey and the Heritage Quarter.
As one of Scotland’s former ancient capitals, Dunfermline has both a remarkable royal history and an impressive industrial heritage. Dunfermline’s past is brought to life in the new museum with fascinating stories retold through a series of special films, inspiring interviews, engaging computer games and, of course, our collections.
The café is run by Heaven Scent, offering a delicious selection of home-made cakes, scones, light snacks such as soup and sandwiches, barista coffee and tea on a self-service basis.
In keeping with the Heaven Scent ethos, products and ingredients are sourced as locally, ethically and seasonally as possible. The café caters for vegetarians. vegans and customers on a gluten-free diet, and there are fun, flexible options for children.
