The Gospel of Wealth
Andrew Carnegie left Dunfermline as a small boy, but as one of the world’s most successful businessmen he never forgot his birthplace.
Andrew Carnegie, the nineteenth century industrialist and philanthropist, was born in Dunfermline in 1835. Although he emigrated to America he retained an interest in his birthplace, and funded many of the city’s public buildings. In 1903 he bought the Pittencrieff estate and gifted it to the people of Dunfermline as a public park. Through the work of the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust, his wealth is continuing to help his birthplace and ‘add value to the lives of the people of Dunfermline’.
